Equality for All C.I.C. sponsors Sport 4 Health. ‘Sport 4 Health’ is a service user led project facilitated by the Wellbeing Service Bradford aka Making Space. This is a local organisation which provides support to people with mental health problems.
Geographical area covered: Bradford & District
Venue: Manningham Sports Centre
Target audience: Adults with a mental health problem
Aims of the Sport 4 Health project:
To inspire people to work together to end discrimination surrounding mental health
To break down barriers to participation and to promote social inclusion
To enable people with mental health conditions to have access to mainstream sport and leisure facilities
To improve confidence and self-esteem for participants
To improve participants’ physical and mental health
Historically, the team trained weekly and participated withinan annual tournament. Equality for All C.I.C. has recently secured additional funding from Sportivate which will enable the team to compete in regular tournaments and also to access regular coaching sessions from the staff at BradfordCity. All participants have personal experience of living with a mental health condition. The service users accessing Sport 4 Health have all reported barriers to accessing mainstream provision. Sport 4 Health challenges the stigma surrounding mental health as well as promoting inclusive sport and breaking down barriers to participation.
Equality For All C.I.C has recently purchased new kits, enabling the team to establish themselves and create further team building as well as boosting self- esteem and confidence. Ultimately this will impact upon their performance and create a sense of ownership.
Please see the news page for further information regarding tournament dates etc.
